Insufficent server memory

I have a server running linux (RH7.2). There is a Win 2000 workstation on the network with an attached HP Laserjet 3300. The printer has been printing output from the server for years using samba. Yesterday it stopped working. When I connect to the pc using smbclient and try to print I get the following:

ERRODOS - ERRnonmem (Insufficient server memory to perform the requested function.)

Both the linux server and the Win 2000 workstation have been rebooted. I ran msconfig on the pc and turned off all the startup functions in case something was starting on boot and hogging resources. No change.
