Event Log shows the error: The master browser has received a server announcement.....

Hi All,

I checked the Event Log from the Domino Application server and saw following error:

The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer FERROXCUBEUK that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{6009FF40-42D2-4. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

What does that mean? Is there anything I can do to make the error disappear?

Generally speaking, nothing to worry about.

The browser subsystem keeps track of the shares that are available on the network. If several computers run the browser, one computer has to be the master browser in the network.

Also, it seems that you still have netbios (over tcp/ip) running? do you really need it?

This is an Application server which is replicating with other servers in other contries.
No mailboxes are on this server and no smtp only company related databases.
To be honest I don't know how to learn whether I need the netbios.

First of all, let me stress again that you can just ignore this error. It is a normail process

From what you are saying you don't need it. so you can disable it (network settings, connection, tcp/ip, wins - disable netbios over tcpip)

Also, to disable the message (and election) , in registry
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
set
MaintainServerList = "Auto"
IsDomainMaster = "False"
