What is the status of the printer before connecting to VPN?
I fear that if your printer is on the local LAN, you may not be able to use when connected to VPN unless split tunneling is configured on the VPN gateway.
Split tunneling allows the encrypted part of the traffic to go the vpn gateway while the other unencrypted part goes to your local LAN so that shared resources like printers and LAN shared drives, can still be accessed as if you were connected to the local LAN.
Enabling split tunneling on your vpn gateway to allow your local LAN to work while you are still connected to VPN, carries a security risk.
Please discuss with the network admin to enable split tunneling on the vpn gateway.
