Can't Download or Update Anti Spyware/Malware Programs

I'm working on an XP SP2 machine and it has a really nasty bug buried somewhere. I was able to install AVG 8.0 and manually update it. I removed everyting it found. I also have installed and run HiJackThis and now have a clean log. I was also able to install Ad-Aware 2008, but can't get any updates (server not found type message). I installed Spybot S&D, but after the installation isfinished, the shortcut points to Spybotsd.exe, but the file doesn't exist in the Spybot directory. When I try to go to an online scanner (Trendmicro or Kaspersky) the page can't be displayed.
Whatever is in this computer won't let me get to any of the stuff I need to get rid of it. It seems that any of the major known websites and software and updaters are blocked by this bug.
I want to lick this problem without having to reformat and reinstall XP.
Any suggestions on where I can find out how it is blocking everyting?Start Free Trial
