The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Malware Deletes All Program Files (rpggamergirl are you there?)

Rpggamergirl or Whoever can help.

Its me again.  Everything on my system was fine until I ran my weekly back up routine yesterday and then disaster.  Heres what I do as part of my DR plan:

1.      Ghost C: drive partition to an external h/d.
2.      Run a batch file (attached to this case as a txt instead of *.bat) that
a.      cleans temp folders,
b.      runs cleanmgr,
c.      runs defrag,
d.      run a piece of freeware called XXCopy (www.xxcopy.com) to backup all my data files to the same external h/d. (Main disk partitioned into C, D, E, F, G.  All data on D, E, F, G.)
3.      After the Ghosting, I executed the batch file (attached to this case) and took a shower.
4.      When I got out, I noticed a dos window open and a long series of deletes running. I killed it immediately.
5.      I dont think the batch file got to the XXCopy section.
6.      Something in this batch file Ive been using weekly for 5+ years had deleted every program on my C drive! ALL OF MY PROGRAM FOLDERS, save one or two, was EMPTY!
7.      All icons deleted from my desktop.
8.      No data files in folders affected.
9.      I figured out how to restore my main partition with Ghost (never done that before), but it deleted D,E,F,G in the restoration process
10.      I had to recreate partitions D/E/F/G (Partition Magic)
11.      Copy those data files back over from external h/d.
12.      I checked the Defrag.Exe and CleanMgr.Exe and they have proper time/date stamps, so Im not sure what was hijacked to do this awful thing.
13.      My DR plan saved me, but something terrible is wrong.

1.      So what happened?
2.      What else do you think we missed in the previous virus removal plan (see link below)?

Thanks for your help!
