The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Vista Ani-spyware and AV conflicts?

Tags: Microsoft, Vista, Vista Home Premium
I want to install the following programs (I know my list is overkill but better safe than sorry I suppose):
 1. Superantispyware
2. Spybot Search Destroy
3. Adaware
4. CCleaner.
5. Hijack This
6. I already have Norton Internet Security installed/running.
7. I already have Webroot Spysweeper, but I do not like it nor use it, so should just uninstall it?

Do you see any conflict if I have all that stuff?

Not a conflict as such, but the machine will run like a pig with all that in the background. IMHO best practice is to just have one product running in the background. It does not hurt to kick off a manual scan occasionally with one of the others.

The other way to cut down on spyware problems is to not run as a local administrator all the time.  Just run as an admin when you need to install, then switch to your normal login.  If you have kids, don't let them ever be an administrator.  Spyware can't get very far if you are not logged in as an administrator.

AdAware, SpySweeper and Norton would be the only programs on that list that might create conflicts.

I'd go for SUPERAntispyware, whether it's the free one or the paid version.
I wouldn't worry about AdAware or Spybot, unless you like Spybot's Tea Timer which is good, but as a scanner Spybot doesn't compare with SUPERAntispyware.

If you don't like SpySweeper, then uninstall it and go for the paid version of SUPERAntispyware, for a small one-off fee you'll have lifetime license for it.

CCleaner is good, I use it for temp files cleaning but I don't use it to clean my registry.

Hijackthis not necessary unless you know how to read its log and know what tools to use if infected, Hijackthis is not a standalone tool, it usually needs other tools to remove infection.

You only really need one good antispyware running in your system with realtime protection.

I decided not to install Adaware2007 cause I kept reading how it was "bloated-ware" and no on Spybot also since I downloaded and installed and have Superantispyware, CCleaner and NIS running.

I set Superantispyware not to start when Windows starts and not to utilize the real time protection features because I feel NIS is ok for that.

CCleaner is set just used to clean up temp files and cashe(s)

Does that setup sound ok?

Sounds good.

I used to have AdAware but got rid of it because I had problems accessing EE due to AdAware's Adwatch.

I have the free SUPERAntispyware as an on-demand scanner.
I Still have Spybot S&D just for its tea timer and other features, I don't use it to scan the system. I had it since the pc was new and never got 'round to uninstalling it.
I have CCleaner and ATF cleaner(ATF Cleaner is also very good and cleans ALL users temp files)

The only real-time protection I have is my antivirus and Tea-Timer monitoring any registry changes.
And oh, I also have SpywareBlaster, which is excellent in protecting the pc against activex based malware and no resource hog because it doesn't need to be running in the background.
Accepted Solution
