The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can not uninstall Norton Internet Security totally

Asked by greywolf01 in Anti-Spyware, Miscellaneous Security, Microsoft Operating Systems

Sirs:
I have a problem trying to clean up a system for a friend with limited computer knowledge in which she forgot her password, which I alleviated, but when I got into the system I cleaned up over 500 instances of spyware and trojans, malware, etc., and wanted to uninstall her current antivirus program, which had run out on subscription-Norton Internet Security-about 3 years ago. I am finding that I can not uninstall this program with the conventional means because when I do, a screen comes up which states that I must be a supervisor and must uninstall from the start menu, but when I try to, I can not even get to such a supervisor screen because it seems that that part of Norton's program is missing, corrupted, or whatever-I thought maybe if I went to safe mode and in Administrator accounts I might stand a chance of alleviating the problem, but the same type of senerio happens. I know that in able to install a working antivirus program I must have any former antivirus programs uninstalled-this is on a Compaq Presario running Win. XP Home. I used Spybot (latest version) to clean spyware and I used CCleaner to clean temp. internet files and used the registry fixer in Ccleaner to rebuild any flaws in the registry-system seems to be working fine but need the antivirus also ASAP-can you help me with this? Thanks
