The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ilava,
Can you please add a comment as to why the low grade?
I think I've provided the correct advice based from your question title.
My first post answered your question correctly, you then asked more question and I also replied to it.
The allocated points is so minimal so I can assure you that's not what I'm concern about.
I just want to know, what other better advice did you want from what I've already given?
Thanks.

Sorry rpggamegirl,

you provided the correct advice. but that is very common one. system restore is cleared all  the viruses but  i have lot of personal files in that. may be system restore will destroy all these files. just i want the solution to remove the virus itself not all the files.

sorry for giving low grade...

I'm sorry to know that you misunderstood what System Restore is, I thought the link I've posted is very straightforward.

From the link it says;
The System Restore feature of Microsoft Windows XP enables administrators to restore their computers to a previous state without losing personal data files (e.g. Word documents, graphic files, e-mail).

That's because,
System Restore only monitors certain system and application files. It will not monitor any personal data such as pictures, personal document files, email...etc.
THEREFORE, these files are not backup by system restore, meaning they are not being affected by System Restore, meaning these personal files are NOT being touched by System Restore and they are not in restore points. Which means whether you use System Restore or not these personal files remain where they are.

I think you're confusing System Restore with a typical Backup utility, System Restore monitors only a core set of specified system and application file types (e.g. .exe, .dll) whereas Backup Utility typically backs up ALL files including users personal data files, etc.
System Restore does not monitor changes to personal data files such as Word documents, graphics, e-mail, etc, so they are not being backup by system restore, on the other hand a backup utility does, there's a big difference between the two.
And flushing System Restore will not delete your personal data.

>>you provided the correct advice. but that is very common one.<<

I have provided a correct advice which is very common so you gave me a C? That, I failed to understand sorry.
Flushing System Restore points or turning System Restore off is the best way to remove any viruses in the system restore points. Yes, very common because it is the best one, not many sensible pc users would go to the trouble of unhiding the volume information folder and manually deleting every viruses in system restore which is a troublesome way and most pc users are wise and sensible and they go for the easy way.

>>system restore is cleared all  the viruses but  i have lot of personal files in that. may be system restore will destroy all these files. just i want the solution to remove the virus itself not all the files.<<

You could have asked for clarification, and I would've tried to help with further explanation.
Please, TRY to understand the FACT that System Restore does NOT monitor personal files, so your personal files are not in those restore points. System Restore doesn't monitor My Documents folder.
As I've pointed out, System Restore only monitors a core set of specified system and application file types, any downloaded or saved file which has an extension type monitored by System Restore (e.g. .exe, .dlls) so any programs that you installed, updates, drivers, that you installed after the chosen restore point(the date you wish to go back to) will need to be reinstalled.
So if you have personal .exe files then you should move these files in My Documents folder so they will be safe.

I've tried to explain this as best as I could and I'm exhausted :), if you still don't get it, I am very sorry.
