The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

AOL 9.0 SE restarts every 3 minutes

Tags: aol, error
hi,

We recently installed AOL 9.0SE on a new PC with XP SP2. Trouble is that the application restarts itself regular as clockwork every 3 minutes giving the following error:

*** GPF Data ***
Error C0000005 occurred in module  at address 700028E4

Stack Trace:
0  : 700028e4

**** End GPF Data ****

The event viewer suggested it was related to symantec so we removed symantec but no dice. We also unchecked fast start but it didnt help either. Until this is fixed we returned the user to his previous machine which works fine - as a side question is there a way to export user settings?

thx

Settings location:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL
This directory is normally hidden under the Windows XP OS. To unhide this directory, using Windows Explorer select Tools, Folder Options..., View tab, select Show hidden files and folders.  You should now be able to navigate to this AOL directory using Windows Explorer or any file open dialogue.

If searching for AOLs filing cabinet under Windows Vista, then look in the following path for AOL 9.0vr
C:\ProgramData\AOL\C_America Online

When searching for AOLs OpenRide filing cabinets look in the following path, where User is the name of each user account name under Windows:
\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\AOL\UserProfiles

http://www.hotpepperinc.com/answers.html

Backing up AOL mail:

When backing up email, youll want to back up your Personal Filing Cabinet because these are the messages that will be permanently lost if something should happen to your computer. To back up your Personal Filing Cabinet, navigate to C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\AOL\C_AMERICA ONLINE 9.0. Here, you will find a folder called Organize. Copy this entire folder to removable media, such as a CD or flash drive. If you need to restore your backup, copy the full Organize folder back to the C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\AOL\C_AMERICA ONLINE 9.0 location.

Download and install CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and  use it to clean out the temp files and clutter on the user's pc and run the issues report to fix registry issues.

As for the application automatically restarting itself...

Go to:

Start / Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / System / Advanced / Startup and Recovery / Settings / System Failure

Remove the checkmark from the box in front of "Automatically Restart". This will allow you to see the error message generated when the error occurs (should it happen again).

While in Control Panel, from Performance and Maintenance, this time go to "Administrative Tools" and choose "Event Viewer" - Look through the logs for errors that occur at the same time as your system restarts. Take note of those errors.

Reboot and test .. doing whatever it was that the user was doing to caues the app restarts (e.g., sending attachments with AOL).

This same thing happen to my and it was driving me crazy

this is what i did to fix it

If you have the AOL tray icon always open, just right click it, then go to AOL 9.0, hover your mouse on it and then click on "start-up settings". From there just uncheck the "enable fast start" button .
