Forwarding Mail From AOL to Gmail

I wanted to switch my AOL account to a Gmail account. Is there anyway i can get my emails from AOL forwarded to Gmail? Is it possible to move my old mail?

What I would do is go into the settings on Gmail>Accounts>"Get mail from other accounts:"

There you should be able to add AOL since they offer POP3 access.

On the AOL side you should put all the messages you want moved over into your inbox.

Hello BrenaeDC,

You can download new emails from AOL to Gmail using Gmail Mail Fetcher
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=21288

For Sent mail and old emails, you can create IMAP accounts of AOL and Gmail in an email client like Outlook Express or Thunderbird. Then copy emails from AOL IMAP to Gmail IMAP.  Since IMAP sync to server, this is like copy from AOL server to Gmail server. Gmail does not fully support upload via IMAP, so create the new folders in Gmail IMAP and move email over in small batches.

I also pulled this off a website as for settings to use. I'm not positive they are current.

"# AOL Mail Settings

The AOL email service is a web based system, designed for managing your AOL mailbox via HTTP IMAP access. Unlike Hotmail, you can use any email client to access your AOL mailbox, as long as it supports the IMAP protocol.

      AOL Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) - imap.aol.com (port 143)

      AOL Outgoing Mail Server - smtp.aol.com or use your local ISP SMTP mail server"

Hi guys,
Thanks for the help. I was able to successfully transfer my emails to my gmail account and I have been getting emails from the newsletters I usually receive. However, when I tried to send an email from my work email (outlook)  to my AOL account (in hopes that it would transfer to my gmail) the outlook system administrator says that it is "undeliverable". why isn't this working?

BrenaeDC, glad you got your original question answered.

Regarding send problem to AOL, is your AOL account still active?  
Did you type in the address correctly?

Check with AOL Level 2 tech to determine if there is server trouble.
