The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Firefox default font display weird font

Tags: firefox, font, default
Hello,
I am having this problem ever since I install more new fonts.
The problem is, that when I view certain words on a page, the word uses a cursive font that is really hard to read when it is normally supposed to be courier new font or something like that.

I have my Firefox default font set to Arial, but it doesn't apply to the cases where the cursive font appears.

It normally uses the cursive font on words that are within a Textarea etc.

Here is the screenshot:
This is how it looks now (I don't want it to look this way, makes it really hard to read)

This is what it is supposed to be (I can view it fine if I use "View in IE tab" plugin in Firefox option, but I want it to look like this even if I am not using view IE tab)

Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Who's webpage is viewing that way? Do you have a link?  The designer didn't choose those fonts, did they?

If they did, you should be able to have Firefox override those fonts.
1st try View->Page Style and select No Style.
Obviously, that's ugly and doesn't work too well.

2nd try go to Tools->Options->Content->Fonts->Advanced and uncheck "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

How's that look?

You may have to change a font or two in the Advanced section to display Arial or the one you prefer.

Yukimin,

Sorry to change the subject, but I have a question regarding one of your previous questions posted last month

(Why I can't view the site while others can? (Urgent))

I seem to be having the same problem with getting to our website and, using your question comments, have been able to connect to the site using a proxy server.  However, my website hoster insists they are not the problem.  How were you able to resolve this issue with your hosting company?

You can email me at bsmiley00@yahoo.com so it stays out of this thread.

Thank you!!!!!!!!

To mtz1of4
1st try View->Page Style and select No Style.

Yeah :( This one makes everything looks ugly

2nd try go to Tools->Options->Content->Fonts->Advanced and uncheck "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
This works on a few sites, but, it doesn't work on my Gmail. Like, I have this email where the font is supposed to be courier news, but now.. it is in a cursive that is even worst than my unwanted screenshot that i posted :S

Thanks anyway for the suggestions.

To bsmiley00, I will send you an email in a minute :) Thanks.

In Firefox, under Tools->Options->Content->Fonts & Colors->Advanced, what do you have set for

Proportional?
Serif?
Sans-Serif?
Monospace?

Is the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" checked or unchecked?

Do you know what the cursive font is and can you uninstall it?

If you can't visually see your fonts and you're on Windows, you can download, install this Font Explorer. http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptfonts.asp
