My problem is really weird. My XP SP2 machine has IP connectivity to the Internet, and non-browsing internet programs (Thunderbird, Skype and the like) work OK, but neither MSIE nor Firefox can show any web page. Regardless of the URL entered, I always get a blank URL page.

Oddly enough, the web browser embedded into Google Earth functions normally.

Other computers in the same LAN can browse without any problem, and I don't use any proxy, so clearly the trouble lives in my XP machine.
