I am using the latest versions of both Firefox and Foxmarks (to sync my bookmarks across multiple computers).
I have hesitated from allowing Foxmarks to sync my passwords across computers for the simple reason that I fear if my laptop was to get stolen, anyone could hack into the various sites which I have the username and passwords stored.
I want to sync my passwords but is there any way of logging out of a Firefox session so that it doesnt hold the passwords anymore. Any other tips to stay safe with the password sync setting in Firefox?

if you dont like the addon means just uninstall it,
In stead of it , you can go for google bookmarks
Google provides an option that is you can save your firefox bookmarks into your google bookmarks
If you are going to use some other computer other than yours
Just log in google bookmarks it will show your imported bookmarks

If you want to make sure your active session does not hold any password related info any more, do this:
Options > Delete private data (or hit CTRL + SHIFT + DEL)
Select Cookies, Stored passwords, Stored form data, and Cache for deletion, then hit 'Delete now'.
For keeping you passwords absolutely safe from all kinfs of exploitation, the only option would be to not sync them, at least not on your laptop. Instead, keep your passwords in a storage programme installed on a USB thumb drive; KeePass (http://keepass.info) is such a tool that I would recommend.
Firefox allows you to set a master password that you are required to enter before it will let you use or see any of your stored passwords. To set a master password, go to Tools > Options > Security, and under passwords click "Use a master password."
