As stated in my original post, I have already tried using FlashBlock.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI am experiencing a sudden problem with Firefox 3.5.3 running on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Out of the blue, Firefox started consuming 100% of the CPU during start up. Firefox holds the CPU at 100% for about 10 minutes, then settles back down to 'normal' levels.
I have tried using Flashblock and NoScript plugins based on other posts I have read, but they did not help.
Thanks in advance for the help.

High CPU usage depends on a lot of factors. Because you're using 10.6, I am assuming you have at least an Intel Core Duo processor. This won't necessarily have a problem running anything flash related, while an older PowerPC processor would. I know because I own an old Powerbook Aluminum 1.67 and it has horrible trouble with anything flash related. You should just make sure that you are up to date with the latest flash player anyway.
What websites are you visiting when you first start up Firefox as they could have badly written scripts that cause the high CPU usage. Another thing you can try is to delete the cache, which is in Home -> Library ->Caches -> Firefox. Failing that, you could try deleting the Firefox folder in Application Support as well, however, you'd wipe out all of your favorites, history, etc. if you don't back them up. Also, what extensions are you using with Firefox? Did you upgrade to Snow Leopard from Leopard or do a clean install?
To add more info...this is a new Mac Book that came with 10.5 (Leopard). I upgraded it to Snow Leopard before doing anything else to it. The browser ran fine for about 2 weeks then started acting up out of the blue. Coincidentally, it started around the time I installed Adobe Creative Suite. Thinking that was the issue, I removed CS, but the problem persisted. I have tried disabling all plugins, including Java and Flash and have run Adobe's Flash removal tool just to make sure there were no traces of it left. I have also tried disabling Javascript, but that has not helped either.
One other thing of note, the CPU pegs at 100% for about 10 minutes after I start Firefox, then it settles down to normal levels.

This because of Flash player, use flash blockers and check
Flashblock for Firefox, and Click2Flash for Safari
flash block and click2flash don't completely block flash, they give you a play icon (or the word flash in the case of c2f) to play the file. just prevents the files from being loaded automatically.
