Question

JavaScript Error in Firefox. Variable Not Defined..

The following code works fine in IE but in Firefox it says that "top.user.frames.TREE.frmTree is undefined".  This is the second line in the function ExpandNode.

I am sure it is an easy fix but I am not familar with the differences IE and FF and how they handle JavaScript.

Can you give us little more infor to crack it down and get the solution? what is "top.user."?? Without defining that i am unable to go ahead.

The code above is in an IFRAME.   My understanding from one of the other developers that worked on this is that "top" is refering to the top opject that contains a variable called users.   In this IFRAME the user can select on a node and assign a permission to it.  The top level of the tree displays but when they click on it nothing happens.   It should submit the node back the database and display any elements associated with the node they click on.   If this is not enough information I can probably send you the various code segments that make up the various frames.

I have no idea why "top.user.frames" would even work on IE...

Shouldn't it just be:

        top.frames['TREE'].frmTree.Leaf_Level.value = nDepth;

IE pollutes the global name-space with many things, including the items in document.frames and document.forms.

Try this:

{
        var user = top.frames.user;
        user.document.forms.addPermission.Leaf_ID.value = nNode;
        var frmTree = user.frames['TREE'].document.forms.frmTree;
        frmTree.Leaf_ID.value = nNode;
        frmTree.Leaf_Level.value = nDepth;
        frmTree.submit();
