CSS Display Problem with FireFox

I have same CSS that styles some selectable "tabs" - have a look at the attached image to get a quick idea of the working item in question.
The tabs are basically generated as set of "list items" displayed "inline".
My problem - as you will see in the attached image, these tabs display perfectly in IE 6 and IE 7. In all versions of FireFox there is a problem - in particular, the CSS for "item width" and "line heigh" are not displayed in FireFox.
Can a CSS guru suggest the the reason and possibly a work arround?? Let me know if you need further details.
