Problem

I downloaded the Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Beta, today, to give it a test drive and maybe write a review for the site, and it failed miserably and got stuck in a crash restart loop.

The error message given is as illustrated below is:

Internet Explorer has stopped working

In fact, I had to kill IE with Windows Task Manager, as it kept re-spawning new instances that also crashed.

Note: You may also see Event ID 1000 in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application log each time IE9 crashes.

Solution

1. Launch the new IE9 in "Extensions off" mode, Click Start > Type in "iexplore.exe -extoff" {enter}

5. If you want you can slowly enable all the add-ons one by one, to find out which one was doing the damage.

Footnote

Some forums are suggesting that enabling "Use software rendering instead of GPU redering" will also solve this problem.

Hey Pete, been a long time.
Hope you are doing well these days.

I never experianced this issue, I tested IE9 out for several hours during the weekend when I first installed the Win7 90 day trial.
The only BIG issue that I noticed within IE9, was being in Google and when I am in a search results page, and I would click in the search field and then hit the backspace button, it would actually "backup" to the previous page. If I remember correctly, it was actually jumping to the google main page.

Just thought I would throw that at you, maybe worth a test on someone elses end.

    Steps:
Go to google, do a seach.
Within the Search Results page, click in the search field and start clicking the [backspace] button.
This DID NOT happen all the time, so.

    Take Care Pete

    Hello Pete.
I am in Win7 and using IE9 right now.
    The bug within Google is:
While on a search results page, you go to Highlight the text within the search field and it redirects you back to the main page.
So, in my previous information about backspacing was inaccurate.
It is the highlighting of the text that seems to cause the issue.

    Have a good one.

Humm, That is always the annoying part, is when something happens to you but not to others.

Also. Did you know about this issue with IE9

I tried it the other day but had to uninstall it because It wouldn't download correctly... It creates a temporary file as the download is being transfered but the problem is after the transfer is complete. The message from the (IE9 download manager which doesn't have a resume option so I should say failure download manager says "can't find the file check whether is has been moved". I searched the entire system for the file and couldn't find it then I decided to investigate looking under NTFS change journal it appears to delete the file when download completes! Horrible and needs some major work.

I don't know if it's a bug but I tried on 3 occasions and it happened each time when trying to download the (Office 2010 Trial) which is around 500 mb.. I didn't even want to test it further after that so I just uninstalled it.

PeteLong ---- Thank you so much for your comments on this issue. Your Footnote comment in step 5 about the Accelerated graphics rendering fixed an issue that has had me stumped on a client's computer for almost a week. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
