The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

IE6/IE7 getting "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context."

Tags: key, lookup, requested, found, any
I have an end-user that was having some system problems.  She was setup and using IE7 under Windows XP SP2.  In order to resolve the system problems she was having, I ran the OS repair by booting from the Windows XP cd.  All seem to go fine, but when she logged in and tried to access the browser she received "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context."  I then removed Internet Explorer from Windows System Components, rebooted and then re-enabled Internet Explorer.  I still got the same message but now running under IE 6 under her logon name.  I logon as myself and it comes up with IE7.  Either way I still get the same message. Any ideas how to resolve?

Hi LeeTutor:

None of these options worked for me.  Do you have any other suggestions?

from here:

http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/internet-web/request-lookup-key-not-found-any-active-activation-context-61188.html

for anyone else looking this solution worked for me. I installed XP Pro over top of a copy of XP Home. All of a sudden I started getting the above and got very frustrated...

It was because of IE7 the solution is to uninstall IE7 using the following command on the START -> RUN

%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe

This uninstalled IE7 and makes it so that you can reinstall it later.

"I then removed Internet Explorer from Windows System Components, rebooted and then re-enabled Internet Explorer.  I still got the same message but now running under IE 6 under her logon name.  I logon as myself and it comes up with IE7."

- Uninstall IE7 (via Add/Remove Programs, click Show Updates and select Windows Internet Explorer 7.0).
- When you reinstall it, make sure you reboot IMMEDIATELY after you install. Should rid her message and bring Internet Explorer back to life for all.

Thanks for all the above suggestions.  I was able to resolve the problem by simply copying the Install file for IE7 from Microsoft and then running the install again.  This resolved the problem.  Have a great day and thanks again.

jmattson30, if you consider that any of the above suggestions helped you to solve the problem, then please close the question by awarding the points.  Otherwise, if you solved your problem yourself, then you should go to Community Support (click on the link at the top right of the page labeled Support) and enter a zero point question asking that the question be deleted (or made into a zero point Previously Answered Question if it contains information possibly useful to others) because you solved it yourself.  Your points will be returned to you.  See this link for more info:

I answered my question myself.  What do I do?
