MSN Hotmail hangs on login

We have about 275 computers on our school district network.  All computers are imaged so that all models are exactly the same.  I have about 75 desktop models (all the exact same) that will not login to Microsoft Hotmail.  These models seem to be the newer imaged systems with all the latest updates, etc. We have students that take college credit courses that need to have a home email address so they need to login to MSN Hotmail.  They can get to the login page but after entering user id and pswd, it just sits and spins forever.
XP SP2 with all updates and patches applied.  Local firewall disabled.  District firewall not a concern as other models can login to Hotmail.  I have even added the url to the exception list on filter and opened a port needed temporarily to test...but no luck.
Anyone else seen this problem???

I forgot to mention.  I have installed Firefox and all works fine with that browser.  Just does not work with IE7.

Do you have any sort of policy settings with IE7? Does your firewall/filter only check IE7 or both IE7 and Firefox?

I'm betting that your problem might be caused by the district firewall. When you login to Hotmail, you are redirected to a few servers. Putting in just hotmail.com in your allow list is simply not enough. I believe that mail.live.com and live.com are the two other addresses that are being accessed when logging in.

Aswell, look at the local policies for IE7. Maybe you have Javascript or some other needed web technology disabled. Your best bet is to troubleshoot this by eliminating one factor at a time. Aswell, consider this, can you plug in one of the machine in a DMZ or "unsafe" network and see if it will work? This would most certainly eliminate or confirm the possibility of the district firewall being an issue.

Greetings krusebr !

MSN Hotmail is transitioning to a new interface.  Cache may be still using the old interface. In IE options, delete all temporary internet files and cookies. Then try to log in again.

If no joy, will the 75 desktops log into other https secure sites, like Gmail? https://mail.google.com/mail/

I narrowed it down to the firewall.  We added Intrusion Prevention to the firewall services about six months ago.  Not sure which rule is causing the problem yet but when I disable ithe entire IPS, I was able to use those computers in question.  Not sure why it did not affect the other computers but don't care as long as it works.  Thanks.
