The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Internet Security Certificate Warning when opening Outlook 2007

Asked by erinch in Internet Explorer Web Browser, Outlook Groupware Software, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) & HTTPS

Tags: , , , ,

When a colleague in my office opens Outlook 2007, he receives an Internet Security Warning with this message:

"the server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified. The target principal name is incorrect."

Upon clicking view certificate it says issued to:
mail14.intermedia.net
issued by: Equifax Secure Certifate Authority
Valid from 3/6/2007 to 3/6.2009

He is using IE7. Our mail server is our webhost company intermedia.net

I am also using Outlook 2007, and have IE6. I do not get a certificate warning when connecting to the same mail server.

I tried clearing the SSLstate, and restoring the default in IE7, but this did not resolve the issue.

I contacted intermedia and they replied;
"The screenshot you sent us shows that the secure certificate installed on our mail14 mail server that you are using is valid and properly installed. We have also tried to configure our test mailbox on this mail server in Outlook and Outlook Express, but couldn't reproduce your problem. We were able to send and receive e-mails using the SSL secure connection to the server without any error messages generated.
We would kindly ask you to try to re-create your Outlook profile for the mailbox you have problem with and let us know if it helped to solve your problem."

Without having to recreate the Outlook profile, is there anything else to try to resolve the certificate error problem?

thanks,
Erin Cox-Holmes
