I have a client who recieves cd's from SSA with documents in tif format. There's an index of the documents on the cd which opens in IE. Up to this point, everything works fine.
The problem is when you click on a link to open a particular document, the file tries to open in IE. This creates the activex notice and when you enable it opens another browser window that just has the name and location of the file. There's a place holder before the name, but the file doesn't open.
I've gone into Windows explorer and set the file association for Tif files to open via Windows IMage and Fax viewer. This did nothing to change it.
I can open windows image and fax viewer manually and then scroll thru the contents of the cd and open the files individually, and they all open fine. This isn't an option however as the files are not named the same on the cd, they have document numbers which makes it almost impossible to tell which document you want to open.
The same cd on her laptop works without a flaw.
I'm sure there is something different between the two computers, but cannot find the problem.
Both systems are running Windows XP, home, with IE7 and all critical updates including SP2.
When the problem machine tried to open the file in IE, I viewed the source and copied it in hopes this would help someone in helping me to solve this:
