The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Websites do not remember me for more than 24 hrs

Asked by ianmal2 in Internet Explorer Web Browser, Windows XP Operating System

I am running IE7/Win XP. If I tick the box allowing a website to remember my name and password for auto logon I am remembered for only 12-24hrs. After this time I have to re-enter my name & password. This applies to all websites - no exceptions including EE.  I have now been putting up with this for about 9 months (this problem started suddenly without any obvious change to my setup).

Here are some actions I've taken and checks I've made;

Un-installed IE7 and reverted back to Vsn. 6. Same problem. Now using IE7 again.
Cookies are present when website doesn't auto log me on. That is, the cookies are not being deleted.
I deleted the whole of the contents of the cookies directory including index.dat.  Made no difference.
Tried the various User Authentication options in the IE7 Security Options.

The best way that I can describe what is happening is that my auto logons appear to expire after about 24hrs.  Does this in fact mean that the cookies are expiring?   I can't understand how a cookie can allow a logon for a day then cease to be valid although still present in the cookies directory.  It can't be a permissions issue or I would expect auto logon to always fail.

It may be a coincidence but it appears that followed links only last for about the same time.  I am talking about web page links which appear in red instead of blue if they have recently been clicked.

Any ideas?
