The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

An exception 'Unhandled Win32 Exception' has occurred in iexplore.exe.
Tags: exception, win32, unhandled, occurred
At various unexpected times, when using IE 6.0, I am getting "An exception 'Unhandled Win32 Exception' has occurred in iexplore.exe."  I suspect IE is creating a GPF, but I can't see the error, because something is attempting to load Visual Studio's debugger.  If I attempt to debug, I can't see anything.

First, I need to figure out how to turn off the debugger (I have VS 2005 installed).  Then I need help figuring out what is causing the error.

Thank you.

Thanks for following up.  I was wondering what had happened with this question.

01.29.2008 at 08:48AM PST, ID: 20769555
I just added this to the Visual Studio .NET 2005 Zone.

I don't know if that will make a difference, but - in general - more Zones (up to three) are better than fewer.

Sorry alk10, this one seems out of my range, but I would start by checking in the Visual's help file regarding debug to see if you can set it to not be the debugger, but  I would also make sure my system was as clean as it could be, of virus/malware. Also, make sure Java is as up to date as possible. I believe java 1.0.6.3 is the latest.

The problem I was having with Internet Explorer resolved itself when Microsoft provided an update to the program via Automatic Updates.

I'm having the same problem - you say it just 'resolved' itself via an update?  I wish I was so lucky - do you know what the patch number was please??

I believe it was the patch to IE 6.0 before the last one - there was a new IE patch last week - this problem was "fixed" before last week.  I'm sorry, I don't know the patch number.

Alternatively, you could try to turn off the debugger from Visual Studio.  I had trouble finding out how to do this, for some reason, but I did eventually find it - after the patch fixed things - of course!

Tools | Options - select Debugging, then Just-In-Time - turn off all options and then test to see which ones you can leave on and which are causing the problem.  (Make sure the Show All Settings checkbox is checked - or you won't see the Debugging options.)

Please post back to let me know if this helps.
