The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Missing IE 7 Icon Win XP Home SP2 (Feb 12 2008)

Tags: Microsoft, Internet Explorer 7, Unknown, Can't find IE Icon in program files or on desktop properties
I can't locate ANY icon in C: Program Files / Internet Explorer to send to desktop.  When I right click on desktop to customize the desktop NO option exists to have IE show on the desktop.  I am going to try and uninstall IE 7 and then re-install.  On the Microsoft website they have an option to change the registry, but I have NO CLUE how to do this SAFELY on WIn XP Home SP2 TODAY (the article suggesting the regedit option was for Vista).  I am a beginner, so please bear with me!

Thanks!!!

oh ps-do you have an internet explorer shortcut on your start menu? you should---if you do, drag and drop onto your desktop

Why did you go to customize the desktop?
If you select classic start menu under start menu option and save, you will get the IE 7 icon in to your desktop. Is this you need?
Btw, you can have the IE icon in to your desktop as opie6373 mentioned above.

Did you search for the iexplore.exe file and ensured that it has not been mislocated?. if not pease try and if found copy that to program files\internet explorer folder and try creating shortcut.

This problem seems to recur.  In the past, there was an option under customize desktop for an IE icon to be displayed on the desktop.  This is why I tried the customize desktop option.  The problem is that under customize desktop, the option to select IE no longer exists....There is no check box.

Under C - Program Files - Internet Explorer, there was NO IE icon present.  If there were, I would have created a shortcut.

I ended up downloading IE 7, uninstalling it, then re-installing it.  Took FOREVER, but this process then created an IE icon under Program Files which allowed me to create a shortcut to the desktop.

Problem solved.

drajha,

could you please close this question?

02.26.2008 at 04:44AM PST, ID: 20983695
I'd love to close the question.  How?  Also, I have to admit, I am a little disappointed that no one seemed to be able to offer a response that I, as a novice had not thought of.  Am I wording my questions poorly?

Well, seeing that you stated you were a beginner in the question, we covered all the possible solutions that you didn't mention in your post.  They may have been ones you had already thought of but if you didn't mention in post we wouldn't know.  You should have waited to post the question after you tried the reinstall.

There isn't always some complex trick we have up our sleeve especially for something as basic as a missing icon.  Make sense?

02.26.2008 at 05:25AM PST, ID: 20984019
Good Point...I guess the term "Beginner" is relative!!!  So, just post everything I have tried?  I guess I was hoping that I was missing something so I would not have to reinstall (took forever!!!). BUT, at least now I know to be more specific in the details I give when I do post.  Thanks!!!

yes, definitely post what you have tried as that way we won't suggest those same things to start with.
