The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot open downloaded zip files - cannot rename file or view security for it - access denied message when I try

Asked by grjitdept in Internet Explorer Web Browser, Firefox Web Browser, File Compression Utilities

I have a strange problem when trying to download a zip file from a website. The same problem has happened to me before on a different website and I'm not sure whether it's a problem with the files themselves or my computer. I've also tried downloading the file to other computers on our network/domain with the same problems. Not sure if this affects all zip files I download or not... Anyone know of a zip download I could try to test?

Basically I can download the zip files fine, but once they're on the computer I cannot open them - I get a access denied message. Furthermore I cannot rename or move them either (though I can delete them). When I look at the file properties, security tab is not available! This happens in Mozilla Firefox AND internet explorer downloads. I've tried redownloading the same file many times with the same results.

Could this be a corrupt file problem, or an issue with my security settings. I'm the Network Admin at my workplace so have full access right to my own machine and other machines etc...

Any ideas? If anyone else wants to try, I'm trying to downlaod this zip file:
