Can't connect to the internet with IE7 but pings work

I can't connect to the internet through my IE7 browser.  I'm using winxp sp2 and it's connected to a linksys wireless router and the laptops connected wirelessly have no problem connecting.  I can ping www.google.ca through the command prompt.  I don't want to reinstall xp so i'm looking for an alternative solution.  This is what i have tried:
-changing network cables
-releasing/renewing ip
-rebooting
-no proxy server settings
-only LAN configured in network settings (dhcp)
-running the winsock fix program
-can't connect to my wireless router (192.168.1.1)
-ipconfig lists an ip address of 192.168.1.100
-connecting directly to my cable modem also doesn't work
-can't test in safe mode because of Blue Screen (however this was a problem before the IE7 problem)Start Free Trial
