Menu Bar missing in Internet Explorer, even though checked!

My Menu Bar in Internet Explorer 7 (on Vista) no longer shows, even after toggling the Tools-->Menu Bar check. I want it back!

Hello Oyster55,

In order to save space, Internet Explorer 7 by default hides the Menu Bar containing the File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help menus.

When the Menu Bar is hidden, you can make it appear by pressing the Alt key on the keyboard.

To make the Menu Bar always be visible, go to the View menu and under Toolbars click on Menu Bar so that it has a check mark by it.

while not an exact fit to your issue (where menu bar is not showing up), I went the route of having it up there permanently. Registry edit here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/place-ie7-menu-bar-back-on-top/

Interesting that the key is missing - or invalid. I wonder if the issue is deeper and a repair of IE7 is in order...I'm looking on details on how to do that...

It seems IE7 can't be repaired in Vista. Only instructions I've found are to reset it, as seen here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/
but that only removes configuration, wouldn't fix registry errors.

I'll keep my brain on it.

I had this problem with an XP machine. When I went into the Tools>Toolbars menu and cheked the "Links" option, the Menu Bar option miraculously unchecked and I was able to recheck it manually and make the menu bar reappear.

I had the same problem and I used PC Fixer (a free utility!) from www.digitalsupporttech.com for my laptop. The problem is gone.
