The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

IE7 loads first file very slowly, then seems OK

Hi

I have a small network, with one machine acting as a server, running XP Pro SP2 and IE7.  I use one of the networked PCs running XP Home SP2 & IE7 - let's call this Machine A - to produce a website, the master copy of which is stored on the server.  Recently, when opening webpages on the server, IE 7 on Machine A has started to take about 20 seconds to open the first page, but after that pages open normally.  IE7 itself seems to start virtually instantaneously, but leaves a blank white page until the webpage eventually loads. The pages are small - about 4k.  IE7 appears to open real Internet pages normally.  Firefox opens all pages normally.

I tried the same thing on the server itself - no problem.  There was no problem either from another networked PC that uses XP Pro and IE6.

I have Norton Internet Security on the server, but disabling this made no difference.  Disabling Windows firewall on Machine A made no difference. On Machine A, I have carried out a virus check and run both Ad-Aware and Spybot, which both found minor tracking cookies, but removal made no difference.

I have repaired IE7 and downloaded the latest updates.  I have run Microsoft's malicious software removal tool.  I have tried resetting IE7 and starting it without any add-ins - all to no effect.

Does anyone have any idea why this 20 second delay occurs and what I can do about it?Start Free Trial
