How to setup windows vista to connect to Roadrunner internet Netgear 314 router

I am having trouble connecting new acer pc (windows Vista home premium) to my broadband roadrunner cable internet. I am using a Netgear 314 router.  If I connect directly to the cable modem it works.   If I connect via the Netgear router it doesn't work.

However, I used another computer (windows xp) using the same ethernet cable and i'm able to connect to the internet via the netgear 314 router.

Is there something I need to setup in windows vista?
