The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Internet Explorer says The Address is not Valid and url with http:///

Tags: address, valid, internet, explorer, http:///
Recently my IE or Firefox keep giving me the message"The Address is not Valid" with http:/// in the address bar when I try to visit websites. I've tried deleting all cookies/temporary files with no luck. I have tried to flush dns and renew ip but the fault persists. The internet connection is there, just that http:/// keeps on appearing.

Here is a copy of my HiJack this log, Please assist. I am going crazy.

It should be http:// not http:///

03.15.2008 at 06:32PM PDT, ID: 21135229
Thats the problem, it just auto changes to http:///.

For eg, when I typed "http://www.webmd.com" in the address bar, it just changes to plain "http:///" and say that the address is not valid. Its the same with IE or Firefox.

Hello wuming11,

Start the Registry Editor by going to Start > Run > type REGEDIT > click OK.  Navigate to these keys in the left pane of the Registry Editor window. Check your registry settings:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix

Make sure the Default value data is set to http://

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes

Make sure www value data is set to http://

Hope this helps!

check for coolwebsearch infection usinf cwshredder.

http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/personal/CWShredder/index.html

Also, try removing or updating the the IE7pro, IE New Window Maximizer, and Flashget add on programs.

Download the following program:

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

Open the program above and click the "Uninstall" button. This will remove the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe service.

In HiJack This, run the scan again and checkmark the following:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
And then click fix to remove these items.

You might want to run the LSPfix utility and the WinsockXP fix as well:

Hello.  What happens when you type in an IP address of a site? For instance, google.com is 72.14.207.99

Secondly, have you run anti-virus scan (used what program?), run Spybot SD, and ad-aware?
spybot:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
adaware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Good luck. Interesting problem.

Please post what an ipconfig /all shows. This is normally caused by bogus settings for the Local Area Connection. You should also remove the firewalls on your system, as they could possibly be breaking things here.

Hi,

My windows crashed before I could solve the problem.

Now that I repaired windows, the fault's gone.
