The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Internet Explorer 7 Browser Problems......web pages won't load properly and sometimes not at all
Tags: Microsoft, Internet Exploer, 7
There are three users on this XP computer.  Problems with IE7 began happening with two of the user accounts.  The third user account is fine, browsing works perfectly and the following problems don't exist:
1.)  When logging on to ebay the following message appears: "Your browser settings prevent you from automatically redirecting to a new URL"
2.)  On Sirius.com, I cannot get the entire page to load  e.g. pictures, flash screens, logon to internet listening etc.....
3.)  Cannot get Hotmail.com homepage to load (just a white screen)
4.)  Can get into Yahoo mail, but can't open messages or delete messages.
I'm sure there are others as well, but this is a good representation of the problem.
Prior to all this occuring, Norton Internet Security was experiencing a problem...the anti-virus option somehow got shut off and couldn't be turned back on.  I reinstalled NIS and the anti-virus automatic on feature works fine now.  It seems, though, after the reinstall of NIS that these other problems began occuring.  It is strange that one of the three user accounts is seemingly unaffected by all of this.  I did try to create a new user account to see if the 2 problem accounts were somehow corrupted, but the new account has the same problems.  I am baffled and ready for outside assistance.  I've attached a "hijack this" file from one of the "infected" users for your benefit.  I've run complete virus scans and adaware full system checks and found no errors; these are registered programs with Norton and Adaware.  All three users have administrator rights with their profiles.  Been using IE7 for over a year now with no hiccups.  Thanks for your patience and time reading this.

Hello jojocpa,

Have HijackThis remove the following:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://mysearch.myway.com/jsp/dellsidebar.jsp?p=DE
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll

Check if you know this site and fix it if you do not.
O16 - DPF: {4CCA4E80-9259-11D9-AC6E-444553544200} (FixController Control) - http://h30155.www3.hp.com/ediags/dd/install/HPInstallMgr_v01_5.cab
O16 - DPF: {4CCA4E80-9259-11D9-AC6E-444553544200} (FixController Control) - http://h30155.www3.hp.com/ediags/dd/install/HPInstallMgr_v01_5.cab

If no joy, the problem is likely due to NIS.  It has many hooks and blocking some of your Internet surfing.  Use Norton Removal Tools
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005103109480139

To remove NIS.   In IE7, go to Manaager Addons and make sure no NIS component is selected. Then test IE7 on the problem websites.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, war1
I probably should have thought about trying the NIS re-install over again earlier in the day...lol.  I do like your advice of uninstalling NIS and testing IE7 to see if it works okay at the point before re-installing NIS.  It is getting kind of late here, so I'll attempt it in the morning.  I also appreciate your advice on the hijackthis text file.  I wish I knew more about how to read those things.  Anyway, I've been trying all day to fix this problem and ready to call it quits for the night.  Doesn't it seem strange that the one user account is working just fine?

jojocpa,

Here is an excellent Guide and Tutorial on using HijackThis, to remove
Browser Hijackers & Spyware:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html

Further details from a previous thread>
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Spy_Ad_Blockers/HijackThis/Q_22626827.html#a19264930

If you still have a problem after using HijackThis, you could try running Combofix.
Download ComboFix and save to your Desktop >
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

However, if you have not used ComboFix before but wish to learn, it would be wise to first study this guide and tutorial:

ComboFix is a program, created by sUBs, that scans your computer for known malware, and when found, attempts to clean these infections automatically. In addition to being able to remove a large amount of the most common and current malware, ComboFix also displays a log when it is finished that contains a great deal of information that an experienced helper can use to diagnose, retrieve samples of, and remove infections that are not automatically removed.
