I have just about finished cleaning up my family's PC running XP SP2 and am trying to check everyone's settings before I turn system restoration back on. It appears some variation of virtumonde got in via email attachment not caught by AV/spyware tools. Also, using Firefox is without issue. But my daughter wants new versions of Flash installed (MySpace) so I went to uninstall/reinstall Flash and Shockwave players but couldn't via the IE 7 interface. Tried to trust the adobe site to allow it to run its script/Active X components but Security tab/customize was greyed out and the Advanced Tab under Internet Tools/Advanced is totally blank. No checkboxes at all. My account has admin privileges so it's gotta be something else and as I mentioned there's no problem getting to stuff in Firefox. Sites which don't need activeX or scripting enabled are accessible.
So I went and reset my IE browser to no avail. Got caught in the aspx loop for setting up IE7 too. But went into Registry and added one of the IE\Main keys to get by that but Advanced tab is still blank.
Any thoughts why? and what may be blocking this? I can run a hijackthis scan but I cleaned a lot of stuff out before getting here.
thanks everyone
