I CUT AND PASTED THIS QUESTION FROM ANOTHER FORUM AT THE ADVICE OF ONE OF THE "GURU" MEMBERS. LET'S SEE IF YOU BOYS AND GIRLS IN THIS FORUM HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SOLVE IT. I WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATIVE AND INDEBTED TO YOU IF YOU COULD PLEASE HELP ME PUT THIS MISERABLE, HEARTACHING PROBLEM TO REST!! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
Please read carefully. I have been trying to fix this for over a month. I don't want any elementary, or hasty answers. I would really like a solid answer to the exact nature of the problem from someone more computer savvy than myself. There is NO obvious solution to this, as I have googled the problem TO DEATH!
Here's the problem. My company has a webpage with reports listed. It seems that they are dynamically produced .jsp files.
The problem is this. If I click on the .jsp, in the past it would just open in the browser and I could see all of my sales numbers and reports in the file, no problem whatsoever. NOW, for some reason when I click on the link (to the .jsp report file) Dreamweaver CS3 opens up the stupid file instead of it opening in the browser properly so that I can view it. Furthermore the file doesn't even display properly in Dreamweaver; it only did so in internet explorer before I started having this problem.
I attributed the problem to Dreamweaver, since I had didn't have problems viewing the .jsp files in IE 7 before installing it. I figured Dreamweaver took over .jsp file association and so I tried to reverse that. I right clicked on a .jsp file and reset the filetype to open in internet explorer.
Now when I click the file, it begins to open in internet explorer, but within seconds, the process stops and I am prompted by a dialogue box asking me if I want to open or save the file? If I click open, it goes back to the ie window for a couple seconds, and immediately back to the dialogue prompt asking me if I want to open or save the file again. If I continue to choose "open", the process occurrs over and over and over back and forth between the ie window and the recurring dialogue box prompt. If I choose save, I can save the .jsp, but it's worthless because I still can't view it in internet explorer like i used to be able to.
One other note, I don't recall, but my IE may have been automatically updated to version 7 recently, but I don't remember. Furthermore, it shouldn't matter because I know other people who access the company page with ie7 and no problem.
Another note........I used to be able to access the company reports on my laptop in IE7, that is again, until I installed Dreamweaver CS3 on it, and now the same crap happens.
I refuse to reinstall anything.

I click on the .jsp file on the company website an internet explorer window pops open and it seems like it's loading. If that is the case, then IE is actually set to open the file right? So that is clear.
The problem is that IE after a couple seconds closes and a dialogue box pops up that says
File Download - Security Warning

Type: Active Server Page
From: my company website url
If I click "open", the IE window pops up, looks like it's going to load the page, and then the same dialogue box pops up again............what could be causing the box to pop up and not let the page actually load into the browser?

Yes, you described the behavior. IE is only appearing to open the .jsp file initially because it's a link on a Web page. Since your file extension associations have been broken somehow -- either by Dreamweaver or in your subsequent attempts to fix the problem -- IE doesn't think that .jsp is a file it can open. The dialog you're getting is the same one that IE gives whenever it doesn't know about a file extension. If you get that popup, then choose IE again to open the file, you'll get the popup again. IE7 believes that it shouldn't open the file.
Interesting that it thinks it's an Active Server Page. Since I don't have any problems looking at .jsp pages from IE7, I haven't seen that message for .jsp.
mrcoffee365:jcimarron - I think you are trying to solve a problem that this person doesn't have. The problem is not how to change the Web server or how to edit JSP files. It is how to get the IE7 browser to treat the .jsp extension as just another Web page. The links you provided and your suggestions are not relevant to the question, except for the one about re-installing a different version of Dreamweaver, which many people have said at this point.
nycpanache - These are tips for helping IE return to a correct state for opening files. They do not directly address the problem you are having, which is that IE thinks that .jsp is a not-allowed extension. However, resetting the dll might help:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htmAnother thought -- did this start after your browser upgraded to IE7? Is it possible that the actual link is Javascript which produces a link to the JSP page? IE7 will not run Javascript by default from a Web site. You have to add the site to your Trusted sites in order for it to run Javascript. Or turn off that security feature, which might work for you, too.
Please do a view source (from IE) of the Web page with the link you can't get to any more. Post the HTML for that link, so we can see if there are any issues like that with the page.
