My client is using IE on Vista and had some advertizing software that has now been removed. I have temporarily given her Firefox as a work around but it isn't 100% supported by her information provider.
Her information provider hosts a website that when she runs it in Internet Explorer generates a problem. (The site is written in Java (JavaScript?) and displays an interface not unlike Experts Exchange.)
When she generates a search and the selects the individual link items they open a new window (pop-up) to display the relevant info. The error is that it then loads same content page in the old window which obliterates the original search results.
Has anyone seen this kind of error before? Would it be caused by a Java update or an odd settings somewhere?
Things I've already tried:
* Searching for and removing Malware (found a few - no virus - system is clean now)
* Add address to trusted sites list so it doesn't run in protected (or mixed) mode
* Install FireFox (the site runs great in FireFox so it's not a Java problem, right?)
* Check Firewall (she's running only one now - Windows Firewall with no outbound rules)
Things I don't want to try:
* Reloading Vista :)
She also has Norton Security Center protection (no anti-virus or anti-spyware) and McAfee Internet Security (with Identity Theft Prevention and firewall disabled). I'm looking into removing one of these two (probably Norton) completely since so many of the features of the two overlap. I think she bought one because it was cheap and the other came with the PC as a trial version.
System is a Vista laptop Intel Core Duo with the standard pre-installed crap from Toshiba.
