Internet Explorer keeps closing on me.

When I open up Interner Explorer in Windows XP I get this error message.  Error is iexplore.exe application error the instructions at 0x749860 BO referred memory at "0x000000 could not be read.
This closes down Internet Explorer.  
I get this pop-up sometimes right away or it lets me work in Internet Explorer and closes down.  What can be done to correct this problem?
