The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Some web sites in IE7 intermittently produce 'Page cannot be displayed' error

Asked by LilDachs in Internet Explorer Web Browser, Windows XP Operating System, Symantec Anti-Virus Software

After many months with no problems, IE 7 developed a problem two days ago. When trying to visit SOME (not ALL) web sites, the familiar "page cannot be displayed" message displays. Some web sites load without any problems (Google, Yahoo, MSN, CNN), other than an ad or two that will not load. The problem is intermittent for some web sites (now they load, now they don't), and constant for others. I have done all the following:
- Cleared History, Temp Internet Files, Cookies, Auto-Complete Info
- Cleared SSL State
- Reset All Browser Defaults
- Turned OFF Windows Firewall
- Ran and Turned OFF Norton AV (NO virus found)
- Ran AdAware 2008 (Removed all privacy items found, NO critical items found)
- Disabled all startup items in MSCONFIG
- Started IE7 without addons
- Reboot to Safe Mode, Start IE7 without addons
- Ran network diagnostics, all PINGS PASSED, NO problems found
- Uninstalled MS Update KB951748
- Uninstalled IE7, went back to IE6 (still have SAME problem)
- Attempted System Restore, WILL NOT restore any previous day

There are 3 computers all running off the same wireless router.  One Dell desktop on XP SP2 (with the problem), one Dell laptop on XP SP2 (NO problems), one Dell laptop on VISTA (NO problem).

I am at a complete loss at this point. Does anyone have any advice?Start Free Trial
