The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

>> HELP!  IE6 is blocking the reading of cookies I set

Asked by webgeek154 in Internet Explorer Web Browser, Firefox Web Browser, Web Site Statistics Software / WebTrends

Hi Guys,

I've spent hours trying to figure out this problem and I'm about to go insane. Please help me keep my sanity.

Here's the deal...

I have a tracking script installed on my server which loads a cookie onto the client browser.  This script allows me to track clicks and actions on my site.

The way it works is that when a user clicks on one of the tracking links, the click is registered in the database and the cookie is loaded.  When the user performs an action, an <img> tag on the following page reads the cookie and register the action in the database.

This <img> tag looks like this:
<img src="http://domain.com/dt/action.php?desc=optin" width="1" height="1" border="0">

This works fine on Firefox 3.  I haven't tried on other versions of firefox but i bet it would work fine also.

The problem is with IE6 (and probably IE7 too).  My script won't register the action in the database.

After hours of trying to figure out the problem, here is what I've learned:
- the cookie ALWAYS is written
- the script doesn't write the action into the database which leads me to believe that IE6 is blocking access to the cookie
- sometimes when I hit the action.php script directly (versus the embedded <img> tag) several times the action registers
- when I set IE6's privacy settings to the lowest level the actions seems to be tracked consistently

Any ideas guys?

Thanks,
