Loss of modified hotmail attachment

I have opened a hotmail ppt attachment, made multiple changes and hit the save button . The file appeared to save and did not request a location. I then shut the computer down and have just returned to find the file is either gone or not locatable. I was using hotmail, IE7, and Vista. I have searched the files using the "search" function and can't find it anywhere, including files in "browsing history".
