SundeyPSU--Try disabling or uninstalling AVG. Several people have had the problem you describe lately. They all ran AVG.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsCannot access Internet through IE, cannot update AVG, and cannot run the Spywareblaster update. I CAN ping public IPs AND Internet domain names (e.g. google.com, etc). I have flushed my DNS, and IPs are received via DHCP. Released and renewed IP.
I can, however, connect to my Terminal Server via IP and can allow support access through Remoteus2007. SO, I def have connection through the Internet. Seems browser related. No proxy or detect connection in IE enabled. Should not be. I also reset all setting in IE. No luck. Scanned PC, and no threats found. Any thoughts?

Yea, thanks. I found that later on Google, and called AVG. Uninstalling and reinstalling will work, but they are aware of the issue and pointed me to a fix they have :
In case that some components are inactive or you are experiencing blocked internet connection after the last AVG 8.0 program update (8.0.196), please try to restart your computer. If the issue persists even after the restart, proceed as follows in order to resolve this issue:
download the archive from the link below to your hard drive and extract it
fixfiles.zip
run the "fixfiles.exe" utility
restart your computer
If your Internet connection is blocked and you cannot download the file fixfiles.zip, you can unblock it by temporarily disabling AVG Web Shield and AVG LinkScanner:
open AVG by double-click on its icon on your Desktop or in taskbar
double-click on Web Shield component
untick the option Enable Web Shield, then click Save changes
double-click on LinkScanner component
disable all its options and click Save changes
Please enable both components again once the issue is resolved.
Of course. I should have mentioned that. That is straight from AVG Support, under the Hot Topics section.

Can you PING the outside world? For example Ping www.nasa.gov? If so what happens when you use NSLOOKUP like this?
nslookup
> set type=ns
> nasa.gov
Do you get a non-authoritative answer with the list of name servers?
