IE8 Hangs on "Add to Favorites"

I installed ie8 on Vista Ultimate a few days ago, upgrading from IE7.  Every time I try to add a site to Favorites, it freezes.  Task manager shows IE using about 48% CPU on my dual-core machine.  Waiting does no good.

Are you running spybot? I've seen reports of IE8 sometimes appearing to hang when spybot kicks in for something (e.g. adding to favourites... maybe)

No.  I run Kaspersky and Windows Firewall.  I've had the PC for about a year, and had no problems like this one until exactly when I upgraded to IE8.  BTW, I'm a software developer & run a pretty clean PC, even if I've got loads of applications loaded.

We do have a couple of apps which interact with IE -- one is MS CRM 4.0, another is Office Communicator (Live Meeting client.)

The hang is consistent -- every time I try to use Add to Favorites.  For now, I've been manually creating new shortcuts in the Favorites folders, which is not a problem.
Are you using a beta or final release?
Is your favorites folder in the default location?
Do you have any add ons? if so try disabling them and trying again
or clicking... Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons)

I'm using the gold release.  Favorites is in default location.  I tried disabling add-ons, using your method (funny, I had never noticed that menu pick before) but it still hangs.

BTW, I've got UAC totally disabled.

I've got the same version as you.

I'm not big on re-installs -- in my experience they very rarely fix a problem (although I very vaguely remember doing one extra boot during an install recently -- it might have been for IE8).  We run BMC's Application Problem Resolution software here (previously known as AppSight or Identify Corp's Black Box.}  I'm going to try to profiel the app & see if I can find out what it's trying to do while it's hung.  I may not have results to post until tomorrow -- but if you can think of anything else, let me know.
