ie8 popup for Search Provider Default

MS update downloaded an ie8 update today and now everytime I launch the browser I get a popup saying my search provide default is corrupted.  It takes me to "manage add ons" and lists google and live search.

I click to make Google my default but it will not make it so and I try to delete Live Search and it will not take that.  THANKS ALOT MICROSOFT!!!!

Hello M3Metal,

Follow these instructions from a user
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web%20Search/thread?tid=4d9cc69c2ac5abd3&hl=en

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Under Tools located on the menu bar > select Internet Options
3. Under Search (Change Search Defaults) > Select Settings
4. In "Manage Add-ons" window
5. At the buttom of the page click "Find More Search providers"
6. Go to Google Google Search Suggestions and Click Add to Internet Explorer
7. Add Seach Provider popup message will appear
8. Make sure to check "use seach suggestion from this provider"
9. Click Add
10. Make sure in the "Manage Add-ons" that google is "set to default"

Here are some registry tweaks that worked for some users.  Back up your registry before editing

The best thing to do is uninstall IE8, restart your computer, run updates on your machine and then reinstall. Now if you really have to use IE8 then I won't mention to go to Mozilla.com and get Firefox.

Did you try simpling going to IE - View menu - Unchecking the applicable TOOLBAR links, closing IE, restarting IE, then clicking the VIEW menu again to reinitiate the Toolbars of choice, checking for updates, etc.?  Completely resolved this similar issue quickly.  Sometimes just that or a simple reboot, clearing cache, helps resolve these types of issues.

You need to add www.ieaddons.com to the trusted sites or the popup block prevents adding the search provider.
