Not able to type in any of the fields in a website

I have a computer, where I can type the website on IE 7, but once the website gets in, I am not able to type into any text fields in any part of the webpage. The mouse works fine. I can use the tab key to shift the control shift through the page, but when I click on the text field, I cannot see the cursor, and when i type, there is no effect. This has been so the past 2 days.

any thoughts, for me, where i can go to troubleshoot.

i also ran IE without Add-ons, but that did not help.

anushahanna--Run IE with no add-ons.  Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Internet Explorer (no Add-ons)
If a third party toolbar (like Google Toolbar) is installed, uninstall it
Run System Restore from three days ago.
Have you scanned with antivirus, etc.?

Yes, I tried with no Add-ons. This is on the Win server 2003, so I am reluctant to run system restore.

Yes, anti-virus is running. There is IE's bing toolbar. Should I take it out?
anushahanna--You have nothing but time to lose by uninstalling Bing Toolbar.  You can always reinstall it.
ok. will remove it and let you know. thanks.
it is removed, and still the same
anushahanna--Does this help
http://www.winxptutor.com/ieabout.htm  ?
jcimarron,
right on. that was the problem. (Error 96). I did register those 3 files. Then I went help-> about, it did not give any error, and showed the version 6 logo.

But IE is now not at all opening. It brings the default homepage (Intranet page), but if I try to steer to any other webpage or click on a link, it hangs up (it tries to bring another page up, and but just freezes).

When I went to the control panel->Add/remove programs, I see the option to remove IE 8. How come it shows IE6 in the help->about and IE8 in Control Panel.

Could this be the problem?
Thanks
anushahanna--The results and situation you report are mystifying.
1) Registering the 3 .dll files should not cause IE to no longer function.  I presume you would like to have IE back to mostly working (minus the ability to write in text fields).
2) Which version of IE is installed?  You reported IE7 in your first post.  Now you seem to feel you have IE8 but find IE6 mentioned in Help|About.
System Restore would normally be the simplest solution, but you say you use WinServer 2003.  System Restore can be run in WinServer 2003,

but I doubt you can RETROACTIVELY create System Restore points if you do not have them already.  Do you?
SO, Maybe indeed the original and present problems can be solved by uninstalling IE 8.

Perhaps, before you do that, clarify whether you indeed have IE7 on the PC as well.
Yes, it is strange, I am not sure how it happened. But control panel says IE8, Help->About says IE6 (as of now).

How can I check if it also has IE7.

(I do not think System Restore points are available for past week, now)

yes, I will uninstall IE8, and let you know.

will it be a good idea to run windows update along with the uninstallation, or should i space it out?

I have no clue why/how I saw version 7 before all of this started.
anushahanna--"will it be a good idea to run windows update along with the uninstallation, or should i space it out?"  Let's see what happens without IE8.  But remember if you have set Windows Update to Automatic, you will automatically reinstall IE8.  Set Windows Update to "Notify me but do not download or install".
Assuming Win XP is the OS on this machine, I suggest you use the method in "Alternative steps for Windows XP or for Windows Server 2003" to remove IE8 in the link above.
Also the next time you visit the Windows Update site, click the Custom button (rather than Express).  You will be offered IE8, but now you can click the + sign and be offered something like "Do not show this to me again".  You in fact will be offered IE8 each time you visit Windows Update (and use Express) in the future, but you can just ignore the offeruntil you want to install IE8.
jcimarron! Sucess!

Uninstalling IE8 and restarting did it.

You are greatly appreciated for your knowledge and patient kind help.

Thanks to JMRFan4Life also for sharing his experience.

I have told Windows to 'Notify me, but not download or install updates'

Now, I have other problem on the same computer. But that is another story!

anushahanna--That is good news.  You are most welcome.  I'll have a look at the other thread.
