IE 8 Error: your last browser session closes unexpectedly

Whenever I open IE 8 I get the message, "your last browser session closes unexpectedly. Would you like to restore the last session or or go to you home page?"  Either choice opens a "Data Execution Prevention" with the choices of Change Settings or Close Message. Either choice opens an error window, "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."  I have run three anti-virus programs without avail. I have set the home page to open at several locations, e.g., yahoo.com, and all produce the same error when opening IE. Any clues on what might be happening here and how I might alleviate the problem?

You can run IE8 with NO add-ons if you prefer, rather disabling some add-ons
Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Internet Explorer (no Add-ons)

Something you might try after exhausting all others is turning DEP (Data Execution Prevention) off. In my experience it causes more problems than it solves.....but that is just my experience. It seemed to be a kajilion times worse on Vista. Right click My Computer, choose properties, then go to the Advanced tab. Then click the settings for the Startup/Recovery stuff. Then click Edit for the System Startup stuff. Change the /NoExecute to  /NoExecute=AlwaysOff. Save changes, close notepad. Restart the computer. That will disable DEP.

I do recommend however that you read up on DEP here before doing so (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352) so that you have SOME idea as to the risks you might be taking.

jcimarron: Thank you for your solution. I opened IE with no Add-ons and then within Manage Add-ons disabled a few whose names I did not recognize. I was surprised at just how many there were. I am not sure just which was the offending Add-on but this was the solution nevertheless.
