This is usually caused from an upgrade to IE7 which either got corrupt or didn't install properly. Take a look in your Add/Remove Programs and see if IE7 got installed. If its there try removing it and reboot after this is completed. Another thing you can try is doing click start>run>type sfc /scannow (this will attempt to repair any files that may be corrupt with IE6) You will need your WinXP disk for this. Also see if you can get to the Windows Update site and download and install any High Priority updates that have been missed.

If you cannot get to the Windows Update site try due to this issue enable Automatic Updates and it will download them for you.
If IE7 is not the add/removed programs list you can remove IE6 and reinstall it. Do the following...
- open control panel
- open add/remove programs
- left hand side click add/remove windows components
- Uncheck Internet Explorer
- Click Next (this will remove IE6 from your machine as it is not listed in add/remove programs)
- Reboot machine

Repeat the steps above to install IE6 again.
