Internet Explorer as Remote App - Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop
We added the Internet Explorer as remote application in Remote Desktop Server (server 2008 R2). We created a rdp file and a Windows Installer Package. When this internet explorer rdp or remote app is opened and an address is typed in, the characters very annoyingly jump backwards. For instance when "www." is typed, the moment the dot is typed the cursor jumps back "ww.w" and all other characters follow after that, resulting in "ww.google.comw". This only happens the first time, the next time an address is typed in the dot doesn't jump back. We can't find the reason for this behaviour. We need to solve this before migrating to this new Remote Desktop Server.

That IS the work around. I've the same situation as you. Users don't like it. I tell them to call Bill Gates and let him know...>GRIN<!

One more question, do you know the GPO setting to get Internet Options – Content – AutoComplete – Settings – “Address bar” box cleared?
I tried the following settings, but they all don't deselect the Address Bar box. So it must be an other GPO setting.
Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Settings/AutoComplete
Turn off Windows Search AutoComplete - Enabled
Turn on inline AutoComplete for Web addresses - Disabled
Turn off inline AutoComplete in Windows Explorer Enabled
Windows Components/Internet Explorer
Turn off suggestions for all user-installed providers - Enabled
Turn off the activation of the quick pick menu - Enabled

Are you setting this GPO directly on the server or have you assigned the GOP to an OU where the server resides? I assume you are running in a Windows domain of some sort. When I have inconsistencies with GPOs applying properly, then I have another GPO overriding it. When I need to customize a GPO for a particular server, then I'll create a GPO, configure it, then set the security to apply that GPO to only that object (server, user, group,etc.).

GPO is assigned to an OU. The GPO works fine. The following settings are indeed being grayed out, but they reside in Internet Options - Advanced settings.
Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Settings/AutoComplete:
Turn off Windows Search AutoComplete - Enabled
Turn on inline AutoComplete for Web addresses - Disabled
Turn off inline AutoComplete in Windows Explorer Enabled
Windows Components/Internet Explorer:
Turn off suggestions for all user-installed providers - Enabled
Turn off the activation of the quick pick menu - Enabled
I can't seem to find the right GPO setting to deselect and gray out the
Options – Content – AutoComplete – Settings – “Address bar” box setting.

IE8? I've found that an ADM file is required to manage IE8. Here's the link:

I have a 2008 TS. I'm going to have a look at this as well. I can't even find the policy settings that you have indicated above. Assume this is the reason.

I found this under user user configuration and Windows Components/Internet Explorer. I'm testing this now with no other settings changed.

I have tried that setting, but that setting also isn't the one that will gray out
Internet Options – Content – AutoComplete – Settings – “Address bar”
I think I have the specific ie8 added GPO settings in AD, done server 2008R2 adprep /gpprep.

What about disabling the tab completely. What under this tab would you want your users modifying anyway? I'm still messing with this myself. Since EE isn't my full time job, I'm getting to this when I can.

I'm sorry, you are right, it is indeed the setting "Turn off the auto-complete feature for web addresses". It was the last added setting I tried, gpupdate probably hadn't updated the setting yet when I retried it. Now the Options – Content – AutoComplete – Settings – “Address bar” box is indeed gryed out and disabled.
So, thanks again! :-))))

awesome! I was getting worried there for a second. I'll share this as well, type "gpupdate /force" at the command line. You don't have to wait for GPOs to be updated then.
If anyone is still interested: The issue is fixed!
It was either IE9 or 2008 R2 SP1, I don't know, I installed those nearly the same day.

Ok great, I'm going to be testing SP1 and ie9 on our 2008R2 Remote Desktop servers very soon :-))))

I added the GPO setting:
Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Settings/AutoCompletehide
Turn on inline AutoComplete for Web addresses - Disabled
A pitty we have to disable this setting, because it saves some address typing, when you can select a previous used address from the list. The users then have to use favourites more often, that's better than the dot jumping backwards.
Or do you know an other work around for this?
