Strange FoxFire - QuickTime problem

Here is a test page I created to demonstrate the problem: http://www.shadwoolley.com/music_test.html

If you open the above page in both FoxFire and Internet Explorer you can see (hear) the problem.

Both Windows Media Player and QuickTime point to the same audio/MP3 file.  But when FoxFire browser is used only the first  8 seconds of the 3+ minute song will play.

I've looked at all the settings and checked FoxFire & QuickTime websites for help but I found nothing about this.  Any ideas?

My config:
WinXP Pro
FoxFire: 2.0.0.1
IE: 7.0.5730.11
QuickTime: 7.1.3.100
Windows Media Player: 11.0.5721.51.45

I don't know.  I don't have Quicktime installed yet, but when I accessed it in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 - Build ID: 2006120418 Windows media player plays it just fine.  Still listening now.

Will try back in a minute with Quicktime.
OK, I just installed quicktime and it's working for me.  I tested it with the Extension No-Script, which allows me to run just the JavaScript I desire. Now the first time I hit the page, both Windows media player and quicktime player were blocked, so I allowed the quicktime Player and the music played once I hit the play button. Full song.

I then allowed all scripts on that page, except the localhost 127.0.0.1 script and I got full music again this time in the windows media player. Didn't even have to hit the button that time.

Both seem to be working for me now on Firefox 2.0
Heck, my IE7 won't even load your page. The Phishing filter is working overtime on you.  But to be fair, I keep my security settings on IE set to at least Medium High so it probably won't load on my machine in IE anyways.

Just to be clear...  The problem I am having with only the first 8 seconds of the song playing is with QuickTime in the FireFox browser.  Both work fine for me in IE.  I thought that by looking at them in another browser would prove that it was something specifically with how QuickTime works with FireFox.
To let you know, I was able to get Quicktime to play the entire song using the Firefox 2.0.0.1 browser.

These pages might have some settings you may have to look at to confirm you have Quicktime set up properly.

trishadee,

Any updates?
Looked at both the pages you suggested and worked through all the suggestions I found but nothing has changed.  And after looking through the bug reports I found absolutely nothing about this problem or anything similar.  I have submitted the problem to both FireFox and Apple QuickTime tech areas and have not heard back on either one as of yet.

The only update is that I found that the same problem happens with both sound and MPG movie files.  I have no idea where to go from here.
QT 7.1.3 on FF 2.0.0.1 runs with no problems.

The problem surely lies on the specific system you're using.

Suggest: Uninstall and reinstall QuickTime and/or crate and test a new profile of Firefox:

trishadee, Blue Zee has some good advice there, but a couple things just popped up in my head.

1. What extensions do YOU have installed in your Firefox profile?  Do you get the same results on a different computer? Because as I said, it works for me, so getting help from either Quicktime or Mozilla may be futile unless they can give you exact settings that you need to change. You should be able to test it  without creating a new profile simply by starting Firefox in IT's Safe Mode, not Windows safe mode.  To do that on Win XP, go to Start Menu->All Programs->Mozilla Firefox->Mozilla Firefox(Safe Mode). That will just temporarily disable your extensions and themes.

2.  Your Quicktime settings.  Something there.  Maybe Streaming - Is Speed set to "Automatic"?  Is "Instant-On" enabled?  Perhaps you have to Increase the Delay, because you are having issues.
How about under the Advanced section?  Do you have anything set under "Transport setup" Mine is Automatic. Nothing under Proxy. My download Cache is very small. Video is set to DirectX. Media Types is unchecked.
Under Browser - I have Play Movies automatically checked and under MIME types, let's confirm
Streaming - All
Video- Quicktime Movie, Quicktime Movie, Autodesk Animator(FLC
Audio - AIFF, uLaw/AU, MIDI, Qualcomm PureVoice Audio, AMR, GSM, AAC, CAF
MPEG System - MPEG Media, 3GPP, 3GPP2, AAC, AAC (protected), AAC Audio Book, SD Video, AMC Media, MPEG-4
MP3 - MP3 audio
Images - MacPaint, PICT, QuickTime, SGI, TGA, JPEG2000 image
Miscellaneous - None

3. To Confirm - please Open Firefox and in the Address Bar paste
about:plugins
and let us know how many npqtplugin*.dll's you have listed.
Thanks for the suggestions!  Here are the sad results...

Per Blue_Zee suggestion:I created a new FireFox profile.  I also uninstalled QT and reinstalled the latest version.  No change.

Per mtz1of4 suggestions: I turned on FireFox in safe mode and changed all the QT settings to match the ones you listed... No change.

You can see the plugins I have installed by going to the following page: http://www.trishah.com/FireFox/

I only have the one computer to try it on at this time.  I'll update here if I find out anything more.  Thanks.
First download the latest Firefox version available here:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Uninstall QuickTime.

Then completely uninstall Firefox as instructed here:

http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_3.html

Scroll down to the "Uninstalling Firefox" paragraph and cleanup as detailed there.

Reboot after that and reinstall Firefox from the fresh download.

Reinstall QuickTime, reboot and test.

If that doesn't help, I honestly don't know what will...

Good luck.

Zee
Looks very close to mine, but will check again tomorrow.

One last question,  What AV and security programs do you have installed?

ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.302.000
SonicFoundry 6.0e (build 237)

These next 3 are installed but I've never used.
C-Media 3D Audio 1.0.41.25
ITunes that comes bundled with latest QT
Nero Media Player 1.4.0.33
Zone Alarm Security Suite, Open the Control Panel of it, scroll down to Privacy and turn off the Mobile Code Control.  Close ZA so that it asks you to save settings.
Now try it.

If ZA doesn't ask you to save settings, reboot computer and try it.  Let me know.
What is SonicFoundry? A Security program?
So sorry... it's not Sonic Foundry it's "Sound Forge"  It's the program I use to edit audio files.

And Mobil Code Control was never turned on.  I'm going to go through the process of completely uninstalling QT and FireFox and reinstalling them.  This time I will only install QT without ITunes imbedded.  I read on the Mozilla site that that is one thing to try with FireFox sound problems.  I'll write again after thats done.
OK, keep us up to date, but I'm willing to bet a this juncture that you will find it's ZA causing this issue.  I'm going to do some more searching.

OMG!  It worked!!  I already had all the privacy options turned off.  I cleared the cache from both FireFox and ZA, restarted FireFox and now QuickTime plays the song all the way through!!!!  Yippee!

Now that we know how to fix this can you explain what these caches have to do with the sound of QuickTime?

Wish I could give you more than 500 points.  Thanks so much.
Great,  I knew we could get it.
As far as the caches and quicktime sound, I'm not 100% sure but my guess is
Nothing.  The caches have nothing to do with the Sound in Quicktime.  The caches are just snapshots of the website when you went to it last.  You clear them so that Firefox or IE will get new snapshots.  That way, you will get the most up to date information.  Sometimes caches get wrong info but they don't clear until you do it or until they get too full and it then releases the oldest stuff (in theory, anyway) I guess it's possible that the cache held 8 seconds until ZA shut down quicktime, but I'm not sure about that.

I believe the real fix was Zone Alarm.  It's privacy settings can be very strong, but also, not well behaved.  I don't believe there is an "Apply" or "Save" button, but  I believe there should be.

I use ZA Pro on one of my machines, but since I use Firefox as my main browser, I let Firefox control Cookies and Ads, rather then letting ZA.  I have All of the Privacy settings turned off in my ZA.

Please Accept the best Answer above so that others that are searching will find the Solution.
