"Macmanservices" I hope that you will respond to this question, because this issue arises out of a recent Answer I accepted from you : (See my last question : "Unwanted download sites Open AUTOMATICAOLLY when starting Firefox.)
Recently I had to fix a goofy Firefox issue by swapping out my User/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profies/ Bookmarks folder to desktop, then log-out/in, and then you, macmanservices, said that I would be able to simply copy/paste a old saved "Bookmarks.html" file back into newly-created Firefox/profile/Bookmarks folder.
BUT - have tried this numerous titmes, and after re-opening Firefox, the bookmarsk are not there.
Have attached several screensnaps to show how my Boookmarks.html backup file looks - all good - then the way it looks when pasted back into newly-created Firefox Profile. The bookmarks simply do not migrate!
Have tried to use Firefox's "Import" menu to get my "Bookmarks.html" file back into the program. But, as you will see in the screenshot, Firefox only offers one "Import From" choice, "Safari," I do not use Safari so that is uselsss to me. I have no Safari bookmarks.
SO...the simplified question is : How can I paste a "good" Bokkmarks.html" file into Firefox's profile... in apprpriate "Bookmarks" folder? Everytime I try to do this, the "paste' apparently does not take.

jbm4,
What version of Firefox is this?
http://kb.mozillazine.org/
If it's version 3, you need the places.sqlite, not the bookmarks.html
I don't have access to a MAC at the moment, but can you close all instances of firefox and locate the places.sqlite file from your previous profile, keeping in mind, if you replace your current places.sqlite, you will over write the recent history and bookmarks.
Does Safari let you Import from a html file? How about Importing your existing html file to Safari and then have Firefox import that one?

I use a PC user not a Mac so not 100% sure that it is the same.
When you go to file and import, it is going to import bookmarks from programs you have installed not from a file.
Instead
1. Click "Bookmarks" -> "Organize Bookmarks"
2. Click "Import and Backup" -> import HTML
3. Choose import from HTML file
4. Select the location of the bookmarks.html file
