I'm not an Opera user myself, but if your mouse has a scroll wheel that is clickable, many browsers will open the link in a new tab by scroll-wheel clicking the link.

Opera opening link in new tab without right click
In my Opera browser when I click on a link, any link. It will always open the link page in the same window. I had to right click it everytime and say open in new tab. What is the setting to change to open the link the new tab by default?

I couldn't find anything in opera to change this behaviour.
Although a handy keyboard shortcut to remember is: cmd(mac)/ctrl(PC) clicking on a link will open in a new tab. It's slightly faster than using the contextual menu right click method
