How do I stop Alexa from starting up every time I open my browser?
Although in older versions of Alexa you were not able to keep it from launching automatically, our latest version of Alexa, called Alexa For IE, allows you to prevent it from starting up in every browser launch.
You can tell if you have this version installed if when in horizontal mode your toolbar has ‘tabs’ that say, from left to right, Contact, Stats, Links, News, Search, Reference, and Help (if you don’t have all of these you may need to click on the << to scroll over). If you have this version installed and in horizontal mode, you'll see a box with the word "AUTO-LAUNCH" next to it. Simply go to the 'Help' section in the Alexa toolbar and make sure this box is unchecked (you can click on it to check and uncheck it).
If you do not have this version, you can download it by first uninstalling version 3.0. To uninstall 3.0, click on the ‘a’ graphic on the left hand side of the toolbar to bring up the pull-down menu and click on Uninstall Alexa. Then reboot your computer and double click on My Computer > C:\ > Windows > System, and delete the files alx_menu.dll, alexaie.dll, and if the file is there, delete alexabp.dll.
Once you have done this, go to http://www.alexa.com/downl
and click on Install Alexa to download the latest version!
