Question
French accents (specifically ç) in URL bars of browsers
Hello,
I`m currently working on a web site in French. The URL is http://www.*.com/français
I notice that sometimes, http://www.tibet.ca/fran%e
Is there a way to get around having it do this? I understand that typing it out as http://www.*.com/français will get the surfers to my page, but the %e7 thing is annoying.

The reason you are getting the %e7 instead of the accented c is because accents are not part of the URL specification, and are therefor output in hexadecimal with a percentage in front. in fact, any character can be written like that. most likely the reason it sometimes appears in the browser is because the browser might be parsing the url to conform with standards and the outputting the result in the url line as well as sending it to the server (the http server never sees the accented c, since if it would it would freak out since it is not made to handle such chars). i'm affraid that until the standards change to use unicode or something, there is nothing you can do about it.
